Há semanas confirmámos que o título «Distortion», o novo trabalho dos The Magnetic Fields com data de lançamento agendada para o próximo dia 18, era para ser levado a sério. Não queríamos com isso dizer que a banda havia abraçado o experimentalismo iniciático dos Sonic Youth, longe disso. É antes como uma visita à pastelaria do bairo para comprar gomas, pastilhas elásticas com recheio e rebuçados com sabor a psicadelismo, inventados pelos pasteleiros Jesus and Mary Chain e comercializados pela marca «Psychocandy». Aqui pela redacção ainda estamos a fazer análises ao açúcar, depois de o laboratório enviar os resultados diremos de nossa justiça. Por enquanto, aconselha-se uma leitura atenta da entrevista que Stephen Merrit deu à Drowned in Sound e, também, uma olhadela rápida a um artigo na Stereogum. Fica também um gostinho a rebuçado.
Some weeks ago we confirmed that the title «Distortion», the new work from The Magnetic Fields with release date set to the 18th, was to be taken seriously. With that we din`t mean that the band had embraced the iniciatic experimentalism of Sonic Youth, far from that. It`s more like a visit to the pastry next door to buy gums, stuffed chewing gum and sweets with psychedelic flavour, invented by the pastrymen Jesus and Mary Chain. We`re still doing our blood tests on sugar, as soon as the lab results arrive we`ll have our go. For now, we advice a careful reading to an interview Stephen Merrit gave to Drowned in Sound and also a quick look to an article on Stereogum. We also leave a little taste of sweet.
