Acabámos de ler «Reinos do Norte», primeiro livro da trilogia «Mundos Paralelos», saída da imaginação e pena de Philip Pullman. Neste primeiro livro a acção gira à volta de Lyra, uma pré-adolescente que vive no Colégio Jordan (Oxford) onde, na companhia do seu génio Pantalaimon, se diverte no reino quase exclusivo da traquinice. Contudo, quando numa dessas aventuras escuta uma conversa sobre a Aurora Boreal, o Pó e outros fenómenos celestiais, a sua vida vai transformar-se por completo. Numa viagem ao longínquo Norte, Lyra vai conhecer criaturas estranhas, feiticeiras deslumbrantes, espectros mortíferos, ursos blindados, para desvendar o que por lá se esconde. Como ajuda terá o alietómetro, um mecanismo extremamente complicado que funciona como uma máquina da verdade e adivinhação. Filosofia, religião, física e muita imaginação, numa aventura memorável pelo reino da fantasia.
We`ve finished reading «Northern Lights», first book of the trilogy called «His Dark Materials», born from the imagination and pen of Philip Pullman. In this first book, the action spins around Lyra Belacqua, a pre-tenager that inhabits at the Jordan College (Oxford), where in the company of her dæmon - an animal-formed, shape-shifting manifestation of her soul - Pantalaimon, lives almost exclusively in the Trick World. But, when in one of those little adventures she hears a conversation about aurora borealis, Dust and other celestial phenomena, her life will drastically change. Strange creatures, astonisnhing witches, armoured bears, deadly spectres, in a trip to the North to find out what`s hidden there. As a precious help she will have an alethiometer, a device able to reveal the answer to any question asked by the user. Philosophy, Religion, Physics and lots of imagination, in a memorable adventure set on the Fantasy Kingdom.
