Para festejar o primeiro ano do projecto, o português e a Stereogum cozinharam um disco com nove misturas inéditas, que baptizaram de «Stereogum Presents... RAC Vol. 1». Aqui fica para escuta.
After the inspired Bloc Party and Tokyo Police Club remixes, Stereogum kept an ear on the 23-year-old Portuguese André Allen Anjos, more precisely in the Remix Artist Collective. É certo que os Spiritualized sempre navegaram sem limites geográficos, algures entre a euforia de um cocktail carregado de drogas de primeira e o pânico existencial de uma viagem sem retorno, mas nada havia preparado Jason para uma pneumonia que quase o lançou num limbo fantasmagórico.
«Songs in A&E», recentemente editado, é um disco que soa - e que se sente como - renascimento, um contar da experiência flatliner que Jason Pierce experienciou enquanto permaneceu na ala de Acidente e Emergência que dá nome ao disco. Se os Spiritualized nos haviam habituado a envolver a simplicidade em camadas sucessivas de sons, aqui caminhamos numa planície musical, roçando o épico - não pudémos deixar de nos lembrar de «Urban Hymns», dos Verve, aos escutar «Soul on Fire» -, num disco que é uma tocante homenagem ao facto de se estar vivo, mesmo sabendo que a morte espera pacientemente no fim da linha. You can not say that the boy has crossed the portal of the living, getting close to know if the earthly experience reserves a sequel, but the truth is that Jason Pierce, voice, body and mind of Spiritualized, went through difficult times. It`s a fact that Spiritualized always had sailed without geographical boundaries, somewhere between the euphoria of a first class drugs cocktail and the existential panic of a voyage without return, but nothing had prepared Jason for a pneumonia that nearly launched in the ghostly limbo.
«Songs in A&E», recently released, is a record that sounds - and it feels - like a rebirth, a report of the flatliner experience Pierce spent in the accident-and-emergency ward (the A&E of the title). If Spiritualized had accustomed us to involve the simplicity in successive layers of sounds, here we walk in flat musical ground, touching the epic - we had a vision of Verve`s «Urban Hymns» listening to «Soul on Fire» -, in a record that is a tribute to the fact of being alive, even knowing that death waits patiently at the end of the line.
