No dia 10 de Julho, os Vampire Weekend vão estar presentes no Optimus Alive!08, que se realiza entre 10 e 12 no Passeio Marítimo de Algés (Oeiras). Nesse dia tocam ainda Rage Against The Machine, Gogol Bordello, Cansei de Ser Sexy, The National, Spiritualized, The Hives, Tiga e MGMT. Por aqui já estamos com sede de sangue...

Novas dos Vetiver/ News from Vetiver

Os Vetiver, juntando-se à febre do universo cover, vão lançar em época de pólens um disco inteiro dedicado a versões. Townes Van Zandt's ("Standing"), Hawkwind ("Hurry on Sundown"), Norman Greenbaum ("Hook & Ladder"), Elyse Weinberg ("Houses") e Biff Rose ("To Baby") são alguns dos nomes que serão recriados em «Thing of the Past». Está também em agenda um novo disco de originais, sucessor do bem recebido «To Find Me Gone», com data de lançamento prevista também para a Primavera. Fica para escuta «Blue Driver», um original de Michael Hurley a ser incluido no disco de covers.


Vetiver, joining the fever of the cover universe, are going to release in this polen season a full record dedicated to versions. Townes Van Zandt's ("Standing"), Hawkwind ("Hurry on Sundown"), Norman Greenbaum ("Hook & Ladder"), Elyse Weinberg ("Houses") and Biff Rose ("To Baby") are some of the names to be recreated in «Thing of the Past». On the agenda there is also a record of originals, following the well received «To Find Me Gone», with the release date set to this spring. here is «Blue Driver», a Michael Hurley`s original, to be included in the covers record.

Bill Callahan, mentor do projecto Smog que em 2005 fez uma visita de poucas falas e boa música ao Clube Lua (Jardim do Tabaco), vai regressar a Portugal em Junho para dois concertos: Santiago Alquimista (Lisboa) a 1 e Theatro Circo (Braga) no dia seguinte. A primeira parte é assegurada por Alasdair Roberts. Fica para escuta «Woke on a Whaleheart», de 2005, a primeira e bem sucedida aventura de Bill fora do projecto Smog. Aproveitem também para reler o que o Fusco escreveu sobre o disco. Por aqui.


Bill Callahan, mentor of the project Smog that in 2005 made a visit to Clube Lua (Jardim do Tabaco) using few words and good music, will return to Portugal next June for two shows: Santiago Alquimista (Lisboa) on the 1st and Theatro Circo (Braga) on the next day. Muito mais que um regresso/ More than just a return

Uma década depois, soturnos, de poucas falas e zangados com o mundo, os Portishead voltam a dar-nos música com «Third». Vestindo uma indumentária onde o cinzento e o negro se revelam cores únicas, a banda de Bristol apresenta um retrato de um planeta moderno adormecido, poluído e submerso em cenários de (falsa) grandeza. E fazem-no de forma ruidosa, como num protesto cantado com cada centímetro da alma. Um disco psicoticamente sublime a que só podemos oferecer cinco estrelas (em cinco).

A decade later, using few words and angry with the world, Portishead gives us music with «Third». Wearing clothing where the grey and black are the only colors, the band from Bristol presents a picture of a sleepy and poluted modern world, submerged in scenarios of false grandeur. And they make it in a noisy way, as in a protest sung with every inch of the soul. A psychotic and sublime record to which we can only offer five stars (out in five).

Não se assustem, não pretendemos entrar numa onda de nostalgia tão comum aos tempos modernos. O título tem tudo a ver com «1984», romance de George Orwell - pseudónimo para Eric Arthur Blair - que relemos com prazer na última semana. Um livro visionário - foi escrito em 1948 - sobre a existência numa sociedade totalitária, onde o estado tem o poder de tudo alterar - a história, a língua, a verdade - e onde, a guerra, não é senão a forma perfeita de manter inabalável a estrutura hierárquica de classes.

Guerra é Paz. Liberdade é Escravidão. Ignorância é Força. O Grande Irmão está a ver-te. Se apenas quiser ler dez livros durante curta a existência, este tem de fazer parte da lista.



Do not be scared, we do not want to enter a wave of nostalgia, so common to modern times. The title has all to do with «1984», a novel by George Orwell - pseudonym for Eric Arthur Blair - that we once more read in the past weeks. A visionary book - was written in 1948 - about the existence in a totalitarian society, where the state has the power to change everything - the History, the language, the truth - and where, the war, is nothing but the best way to mantain the hierarchical structure of classes.

War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. Big Brother is watching you. If you only pretend to read ten books during your life, this must be one of them

Os Vampire Weekend (na foto), banda que tem vindo a rodar incansalvemente no Fusco desde o início do ano, estreiam-se na Lusitânia no próximo dia 30 de Maio. O grande happening vai acontecer na Casa da Música, na bela cidade da Invicta.

Para quem ainda estiver com um pé atrás, diga-se que os rapazes vão estar muito bem acompanhados: Young Marble Giants e Lightspeed Champion fazem parte do festim musical. Uma noite absolutamente a não perder.



Vampire Weekend, band that has been playing at Fusco on a happy loop, are making their debut in Portugal on the 30th of May. The happening will take place at Casa da Música, in Oporto.

For those who are still in doubt making the trip, let`s say the boys are gonna be in good company: Young Marble Giants (photo above) and Lightspeed Champion are part of the musical menu. A night not to be missed.

Os Radiohead continuam a disfrutar do "estado de graça pós «In Rainbows»". Ontem fizeram uma visita à BBC, para duas sessões onde o novo material se misturou com alguns clássicos. O Fusco deixa os mapas para a matiné e a sessão do fim de tarde.


Radiohead continue to live in the "post «In Rainbows» state of grace". Yesterday, they made a visti to the BBC, perfoming in two sessions where the new stuff got mixed with the classic material. Fusco leaves the maps for the day set and the evening session.

At the Fusco headquarters we can say that«Three», the Portishead comeback after ten years of silence, is becoming an obsession to be worried about. Depois dos Radiohead (com «OK Computer») e dos REM (com «Automatic For The People»), a Stereogum decidiu homenagear Bjork, com a edição de um disco de tributo a «Post» - um dos mais celebrados discos da já longa carreira da cantora islandesa -, que recebeu o baptismo de «Enjoyed: A Tribute To Bjork`s Post». O Fusco junta-se à festa e partilha com a blogosfera o resultado final. Os nossos destaques vão para as recriações dos Dirty Projectors, White Hinterland e Final Fantasy & Ed Droste.
